Legislation is the process of creating a bill, sending the bill to committee, marking up a bill, and finally voting on the bill.
This is not an easy process and many bills that are introduced never make it out of committee. Why do legislators not want safe staffing for nurses, or
better mental healthcare, or vaccines for children? Money is one issue. The big tobacco companies, Pharma, and others lobby against passing bills.
That is why nurses are needed! For week 4,you will choose proposed legislation (not enacted) and analyze it. Remember that there are two parts.
For part 1, please use the template that is provided, which will ensure that you address all of the essential elements of the assignment. For part 2,
you will write an advocacy statement. This should be written in first person, in a persuasive manner, aimed at addressing the concerns of the opponents or
proponents to your proposed legislation, depending on which stand you take.
Submit your Legislation Comparison Grid (Part 1) and your Advocacy Statement (Part 2). Be sure to compare your grid and advocacy statement to the assignment rubric,
which is used for grading. Please let me know if you have questions. The Advocacy Statement should have:
Testimony in Support of your Position
Rebuttal to Opposition
Proposed Amendment to Bill
References
Use APA in-text citations in your advocacy statement. Use 5 references. References do not count as a page.
If you are having trouble finding opposition to your bill, look for older bills on the same health issue that were not passed and discuss those opponents.
Most often the same opposition will come up if not corrected in the new bill.
I would recommend combining yourLegislationComparisonGridandAdvocacy Statementtogether in one document. If you upload separately,be sure to attach to the assignment
link at the same time.Theresponse needs tofully integrate at least2outside resources and2-3course specific resources that fully supports the summary provided

For your next research assignment, you are to identify a qualitative research article (ATTACHED)–not a summary or literature review, but a bona fide research study–that is in your field of study and read it.  After reading it, you will provide the following information about it in a summary that is at least 1 full page:

1) Provide a full reference to the article using the APA Style Manual. (This section does not count toward your word limit.)

2) What is the purpose of the study?

3) Who or what was studied, and when?

4) What qualitative method(s) did the author(s) use?  How do you know?

5) What did the author(s) find?  Did the author(s) have any theories that they were testing, or were they doing exploratory research to develop theories?  If a theory was being investigated, was there evidence to support it?

Locate the APTA document: Minimum Require Skills of PTA Graduates at Entry-Level to perform a self-assessment.2. As you read the document, takes notes on the following topics:

A. What skill(s) do you consider your strength(s) ?

B. What skill(s) do you consider your weakness(es) ?

C. What skill(s) will you need to move toward your desired career path as a PTA?

D. List these clearly in the specified boxes in the table.

3. Answer the Question: What is my Career Motivation? This should be something that will keep you motivated for years to come, not just for graduation and getting your first job.

4. Develop career goals for each time frame listed: Three for Short-Term, Three for Long-Term and Two for Lifetime. They MUST be quanitifiable meaning you need to have an objective way to determine if the goal has been met. Ex. I will join the APTA during the first year and attend at least 2FPTA Southeast District Meetings. Or, I will continue my education to achieve a Masters degree before the age of 35. Or, I will attend a national conference in the next 2 years to address my weaknesses in Neuromuscular Rehab techniques.

5. In the Development Activities and Experience Section determine what steps need to be taken to achieve your goals. Ex. Sign up for the APTA and locate FPTA meeting dates for SE district. Or, Research Bachelor and Master degree options and learn about financial aid sources. Or, Research PTA Advanced Proficiency Pathway, find a job in my desired area and begin logging hours.

6. Now what Actions steps must be taken and what is your deadline to be complete the action step?  Ex. save money for APTA/FPTA Dues by August 1st. Make appointment to meet with Admissions Advisor for choosing a bachelor program by December 31st. Join a job search engine to find a position in a Pediatric/Geriatric/Wound facility by October 15th.

7. Set Target dates for Completing the Planned Activities.

8. Determine what Required Resources you will need to achieve your goals. Ex. Create a college fund to put towards a Bachelor and Masters degree. Or, Pay sitter to attend FPTA meetings. Start a savings plan for a family trip planned around National Conference location and dates. Or, Find a per diem job to help cover additional expenses.

The submission should follow the instructions provided on the Grant Proposal (RFP), include the project goal(s), SMART objectives, and activity timelines chart.

Section 2 – [2 – 3 pages]

Description of Proposed Research – (Including Method and Approach, Project Activity, Methodology and Outcomes) Now that you are established a need for your project, you have to describe your project This section is the heart of the proposal and is the primary concern of the technical grant reviewers. Describe why you/your organization are the best one to do what you propose to do? Is it an extension of successful, innovative work or a pilot project you already completed? Be realistic about what can be accomplished. Discuss why you chose to address the issue in the manner that you have. Are there other approaches? If so, why are not they appropriate to the situation? Be clear about the focus of the research Be explicit about any assumptions or hypotheses the research method rests upon. What are the goals of your project or your research questions? What are the goals of your project? Be realistic about what can be accomplished (SMART Objectives – specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely) and who will do them? Be certain that the connection between the research objectives and the research method is evident. Be as detailed as possible about the schedule of the proposed work. Describe the specific activities involved. Present a timeline of activities. Tables and charts work best here. They crystallize data, break up pages of narrative, and convey extensive information well in a limited space. Discuss the specific outcomes to be achieved? What will change? What will your projects outcomes be? How are you going to achieve those outcomes? What methods will you use? How will you measure or recognize your projects achievements? How can you be sure that your project will productively respond to the need or problem? Be specific about the means of evaluating the data (Section 3) or the conclusions. Several of the following questions focus on the impact your project will have. Delineating the impact is important because funders want to see that you have clearly established the realistic benefits of your work along with how you plan to verify and assess your achievements.
