The prices that people pay for and have grown very rapidly in the United States in recent decades (click on the linked words to see graphs showing this). In fact, compared to the income of the average American family (which has not grown very much), the costs of health care and college have skyrocketed. Of course, there are many reasons for this, some simple and others complicated. But for now, I want you to use what you have learned this week about supply and demand to make an educated guess about what’s going on. Why do you think the prices of health care and education and growing so much and so fast? Think about the kinds of supply and demand curves that might exist in those markets, and about factors that may be shifting them.
